When I was in high school, I had a super negative image of myself.
I was overweight and unhappy with my body. So much so that I became a victim to it.
I was so ashamed, even though I had SO much to be proud of.
I had great friends. I was involved in leadership positions at school. I was a SUCCESSFUL student working tirelessly toward my dream schools.
But NONE of that mattered to me.
I let my self-image shroud my achievements. I assumed people only thought of me as this overweight, insecure girl.
And I even started to believe those horrible things myself.
My struggles with self-image persisted all through high school and college because I was trying to satisfy someone else’s image of a successful person.
Luckily, I found a way out.
In this episode, I open up about my struggles with my body image and my mental health, how it affected my entire mindset through my college admissions journey, and why I had to change that to start living my BEST life.

NOTABLE QUOTES:
“I realized that I made (decisions) based on how other people would perceive me versus how I wanted to feel, how I wanted to live my life. And then I saw that pattern in so many other parts of my life.”
“You can control what’s within your capacity… I can work out (for) 50 minutes today if I want to lose weight. If I want to get accepted into my dream college, I can work on my passion project today.”
“I’ve been through it all. And I welcome more. I welcome more struggles. I welcome more of that kind of pain that I felt, because that’s a place of growth.”
“You get to create your own reality. Don’t forget that — don’t use your parents as an excuse. Don’t use your friends as an excuse. Don’t use your school district as an excuse. Don’t use your financial circumstances as an excuse.”
