I’m so excited to share with you this special episode, where I’ll be sharing with you a bit of where I began with college consulting– and interviewing my first ever student: my brother Jason! Jason graduated from USC Marshall School of Business and now works as a Corporate Finance Analyst at RAND Corporation.
So many high school students are in the same position as Jason was– unmotivated and not sure of what their passions are. But as we discuss, this doesn’t have to be the case forever! Changing your mindset, surrounding yourself with people who inspire you, and exploring your interests (and turning them into passions) are just a few steps students can take towards the right direction.
It was weird having my brother on my show, but we caught up about our younger days! Definitely miss them 🙂
TUNE IN BELOW:
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN ABOUT IN THIS EPISODE:
- How Jason went from C and D grades and no motivation to straight A’s and confidence
- The importance of having a growth mindset
- Exploring your interests, even if they aren’t the major you’re looking to declare
- Why surrounding yourself with driven people can help you work harder
- Why he wished he hadn’t joined many school clubs
NOTABLE QUOTES:
The mindset takes you a really long way– Jason still feels the same way since he shifted the way he thought about success.
What is success to you? What does that look like for you? How does that feel like for you?
Getting A’s in high school will actually impact your life. That kind of pressure made me become a much more diligent, studious person.
I was so caught up in being in so many clubs… but looking back… I think I would just encourage students to not go for just any club, but join a club that actually piques your interest.
You only go through this college application process once. You’ve got to give it your all.
